That gear thing...

It's hard for me to make sense of the need some film makers have to have the newest-hippest thing gear wise. It seems if they put half the energy into film-making that they do researching the next hip bit of gear they might actually make some films...

My rule of thumb is to simply use the gear that I have until it no longer does the job and only then sort out the next gear purchase. Then again, vapor ware has never been much of an interest...
